          Policy for Community Guidelines on Library Social Media Platforms
                                 Purpose of the Library’s Social Media Sites:
The Public Library of Steubenville and Jefferson County has established social media sites to inform the community of the library’s events, services, and its collection of materials. The library’s social media sites are also used to inform the general public about library employment opportunities. The library’s social media sites are not intended to be traditional public forums for the general exchange of ideas and viewpoints, but a limited forum for discussing library programs, events, and materials.
By joining, utilizing, and or posting the library’s social media sites, you agree to comply with this policy.

                                                       Posting on Social Media:
The library permits patrons to comment on library posts. Patrons and the public are invited to share opinions about library-related subjects, resources, and programs. Postings by patrons and the public do not indicate library endorsement of the ideas, issues, or opinions expressed in posts on its social media sites. The purpose of the library’s social media sites is to inform library users about library programs, services, and materials. Any postings inconsistent with this stated purpose, as determined by the library in its sole discretion, may be removed in accordance with the process set forth in this policy.
-Obscene content
-Content that promotes, fosters, or perpetuates discrimination and/or harassment on the basis of race, creed, color, age, gender, marital status, religion, national origin, physical or mental disability, sexual orientation, ancestry or any other protected category.
-Personal attacks, insults, or threatening language
-Private or personal information, including phone numbers and addresses, or requests for personal information
-Potentially libelous or defamatory statements
-Commercial, political, or religious messages unrelated to the library or its social media postings
-Solicitation of funds
-Advertising or sale of merchandise or services
-Charitable solicitations or political campaigning
-Content not related to library business, programs, events, resources, and materials
-Links (URLs)
-Copyrighted or trademarked material
-Postings that violate or potentially violate local, state, or federal laws.

                                                        Violations of This Policy:
Postings which the library in its sole discretion, deems unpermitted under this policy, may be removed in whole or in part by the library or its agents immediately upon discovery by the library without prior notice. The library reserves the right to terminate accounts, ban, or block users who have posted in violation of the policy on more than one occasion.
