[vc_row][vc_column][vc_custom_heading source=”post_title” use_theme_fonts=”yes”][vc_column_text]Military records can be accessed stretching, in some cases, back to the colonial wars in the 1600s and 1700s. In general, these are federal records and the appropriate starting point is the National Archives in Washington, D.C. or its branches. Immigration records are also kept by the National Archives, and it can be quite thrilling to find the specific name of the ship on which a specific ancestor arrived. Some immigration records are also kept by state and local archives for their specific ports of entry. Indexing is uneven, so tedious searching of records may be needed. Military records found at PLSJ can be found in the Ohio Collection of the Schiappa Branch Library. Information included in these records are from:

– Revolutionary War
– Civil War
– Pre-Revolutionary War
– WWI-WWII
– Korean War
– Vietnam War
– War of 1812
– War with Spain 1898-1899
– War with Mexico 1846-1848
